Samsung Brings AirDrop Compatibility to Galaxy Devices via Quick Share

Samsung has officially introduced AirDrop compatibility to its Galaxy ecosystem, marking a major step toward seamless file sharing between Android and Apple devices.

For a long time, Apple has maintained a tightly controlled ecosystem where features like AirDrop, Handoff, and Continuity are designed to work seamlessly only between Apple devices. AirDrop in particular has remained exclusive to iPhone, iPad, and Mac users, reinforcing Apple’s “walled garden” approach.

Recently, however, that boundary has started to shift through Android-side interoperability efforts. Samsung has introduced AirDrop-compatible file sharing on its Galaxy devices via Quick Share, currently rolling out starting with the Galaxy S26 series, allowing users to send files directly to Apple devices such as iPhones and Macs.

According to an official announcement from Samsung, the feature is being integrated into its native Quick Share system, allowing users to wirelessly transfer files between Galaxy smartphones and Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

In a statement published on Samsung Newsroom , the company confirmed that the feature will debut on the Galaxy S26 series, enabling direct file transfers without the need for third-party apps or cloud services.

This is not the first time Android devices have gained AirDrop compatibility. In November 2025, Google introduced cross-platform file sharing between Android and iPhone by enabling Quick Share to work with Apple’s AirDrop, starting with the Pixel 10 series.

Similar to Google’s rollout—where AirDrop interoperability was initially restricted to Pixel 10 devices—Samsung is also limiting its implementation to select hardware, with the feature currently exclusive to the Galaxy S26 series through Quick Share integration

Similar to Google’s rollout—where AirDrop interoperability first launched on the Pixel 10 series before gradually expanding to other Pixel devices—Samsung is currently introducing the feature on the Galaxy S26 lineup through Quick Share integration.

While broader One UI updates are expanding to devices such as the S24, S25, and Z Fold/Flip series through beta programs, Samsung has only officially confirmed the S26 series as the initial rollout group for AirDrop-compatible sharing, with support for additional Galaxy devices expected in future software updates.

Android-to-iPhone AirDrop (via Pixel 10)

While Android-to-iPhone AirDrop compatibility initially launched exclusively on the Pixel 10 series in November 2025 and has since expanded to select devices such as the Pixel 9 lineup, Samsung’s implementation is currently limited to the Galaxy S26 series. Reports indicate that both Google and Samsung plan to gradually expand the feature to additional Android devices over time, as broader ecosystem support continues to roll out throughout 2026.

Together, these developments suggest that AirDrop-style compatibility is slowly becoming more open to Android devices, with cross-platform file sharing increasingly moving toward a broader, ecosystem-neutral standard—similar to how Microsoft’s Windows ecosystem gradually expanded built-in cross-device sharing features to work more smoothly with mobile devices over time.
